SHAPING THE FUTURE OF RURAL WICKLOW

Community Consultation for the Rural Development Strategy in County Wicklow 2007 – 2013

Wicklow Rural Partnership is seeking the views of communities across Wicklow, to include these in the new Rural Development Strategy, currently being prepared for the County.

This strategy will give communities in Co. Wicklow new opportunities to improve community facilities and amenities as well as offering community enterprise, tourism, heritage, training, networking and other supports to your area.

When completed, the strategy will be submitted to the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs, for consideration under the National Rural Development Strategy 2007 – 2013 (including LEADER activities). The types of initiatives included in the National Rural Development Strategy include:

• Support for business creation and development
• Encouragement of tourism activities
• Basic services for the economy and rural population
  
• Village renewal and development
  
• Diversification into non-agricultural activities
  
• Conservation and Upgrading of the Rural Heritage
  
• Training and information

The Co. Wicklow strategy will focus on the specific needs of communities in Co. Wicklow and will implement a range of funding, training, research and networking initiatives relevant to your area’s needs.

Your group is an active participant in rural development initiatives and has either benefited from or expressed an interest in benefiting from the LEADER programme operated by Wicklow Rural Partnership.

We would like to hear about the needs of your community and your views on the operation of the Rural Development Strategy in Co. Wicklow from 2007 – 2013 (including LEADER initiatives) and have enclosed a form for this purpose. We hope that your group will meet to jointly agree responses and will return the completed questionnaire using the enclosed self-addressed envelope by Monday, 19th March 2007.

Stakeholder Consultation for the Rural Development Strategy in County Wicklow 2007 – 2013

Wicklow Rural Partnership is seeking the views of stakeholder organisations, statutory bodies and support agencies across Wicklow, to include these in the new Rural Development Strategy, currently being prepared for the County.

This strategy will give stakeholder organisations new opportunities to collaborate with WRP on a wide range of enterprise, community, tourism, heritage, research, training and networking initiatives to be implemented in Co. Wicklow from 2007 – 2013.

When completed, the strategy will be submitted to the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs, for consideration under the National Rural Development Strategy (including LEADER activities) 2007 – 2013. The types of initiatives included in the National Rural Development Strategy include:

In particular, we are seeking suggestions for collaborative, complementary partnerships in the context of the new strategy. We hope that your organisation will support the preparation of the Co.
