KILDARE
WICKLOW EQUAL objectives include:
- Supporting
employers in recruiting and retaining target groups.
- Promoting
equality of opportunity through training and development
support.
- Helping
ensure our target groups maintain their employability.
Kildare Wicklow Equals main target groups are Women &
Youth.
Kildare/Wicklow EQUAL programme
EQUAL is a European Union Community Initiative which operates
by bringing together the key players in a geographical area
or sector including public administration, non-governmental
organisations, social partners and the business sector to
work in partnership. These Development Partnerships
then agree a strategy within which they will try out new ways
of dealing with problems of discrimination and inequality
which they wish to address.
Wicklow Rural Partnership is the Lead Partner in the Kildare
Wicklow Equal (KWE) Development Partnership. The members of
KWE are working together in partnership to provide stable
employability options within key geographical areas of the
project by:
- Creating
links between employees currently experiencing barriers
to accessing employment and employers who are active in
the labour market.
- Identifying
measures to support local organisations to enhance their
individual remits for the benefit of those who are trying
to access employment opportunities
Unique Features:
A unique feature of this programme is the delivery of the
programme in two distinct counties, as reflected in the project
name. A further feature is the distinctive urban rural contrast,
which exists in both counties. The programme entails collaboration
not just between agencies and organisations but also within
agencies and organisations. This presents a unique opportunity
for learning, information dissemination both internal and
external, and for the collective mainstreaming of outcomes.
2003 Programme:
During 2003 the partners worked together to identify areas
where innovative interventions are required and then co-operated
in the delivery of these initiatives.
Kildare Wicklow Equal has identified people, primarily in
rural areas, who are suffering from social exclusion and lack
of access to employment due to lack of training. In many cases
the people involved have completely disengaged from education
or employment due to real or perceived barriers. In order
to tackle these issues the KWE Partners have:
- Run
client centred Independent Parenting courses to encourage
lone parents to engage with us with a view to moving on
to further training and ultimately into employment.
- Run
Bridge to Training and Employment courses for long term
unemployed women.
-
Funded training for low income farm families.
-
Funded childcare and provided transport if required for
participants on our programmes.
-
Funded progression to skills and career training for participants
on our entry level programmes.
-
Funded research among low income farm families into employment
issues affecting them.
-
Initiated a "Training the Trainers" programme
to provide certified trainers at community level.

Transnational
Partnership:
Kildare Wicklow Equal are part of a Transnational Partnership,
called "E-Net", with partners from Germany, Greece
and Spain. KWE were represented at meetings of E-Net Transnational
Partnership in Germany (February) and Spain (June).
KWE successfully hosted a Transnational visit to Ireland
for our partners in Oct 2003. The visitors attended two days
of workshops at Glendalough.
KWE also organised a visit to our partner's German projects
for 8 people in Nov 2003. The group included four participants
from our Training the Trainers Course and managers/trainers
from projects.
KWE has set up and is managing a Bulletin Board for the E-Net
Transnational Partnership. The Bulletin Board is being used
to post product/reports from transnational meetings, the exchange
of information and networking among the transnational partners.
